The City of Newburgh Engineering Department will be overseeing the removal of an underground petroleum storage tank located beneath the entry ramp at the northern entrance to 123 Grand Street. Construction work is tentatively scheduled to begin on May 11 and extend through June 2022 resulting in the regrading of the area and ADA ramp reconstruction.
Due to safety concerns stemming from the deteriorated condition of the existing pedestrian ramp, all individuals are directed to enter 123 Grand Street using the southern entrance on Second Street via the ADA compliant metal ramp or stairs. Temporary signage is posted to direct pedestrians accordingly. Visitors may continue to park in the parking lot until construction work begins in May.
Once work commences on the project, the parking lot will be closed for contractor staging and all visitors will need to park their vehicles on the street or in the City-owned parking lot located on the east side of Grand Street. Residents in the area should be prepared for delays.
Removal of the fifteen-thousand-gallon oil storage tank and soil testing for contamination is required by the NYSDEC. Please contact the Engineering Department at 845-569-7447 with any questions or concerns.
The City of Newburgh appreciates the public’s patience and understanding while it works to comply with NYSDEC regulations.
