Firefighter Requirements

Applicants to to the City of Newburgh Fire Department must have a valid NYS Driver's License and be a US Citizen at the time of appointment and throughout tenure. Other requirements include:

• High school diploma or high school equivalency diploma (GED)
• Legal residency in Orange County
• No felony convictions without NYS Relief from Disabilities Certificate for qualified individuals
• Firefighter Physical Fitness Standards (PDF)

Candidates who pass the written exam are placed on the eligibility list in order from the highest to lowest grade. Preference in appointment is provided to City of Newburgh residents.
