Animal Control

The City of Newburgh Police Department employs Animal Control Officers to enforce animal care and control laws found in Chapter 150 of the City Code and Article 7 of the New York State Agriculture and Markets Law relating to dog licensure.

Dog Licensing Requirements

All dogs within the City of Newburgh four months of age or older, unless otherwise exempted, shall be licensed. City of Newburgh residents can obtain a Dog License at the City Clerk's Office. You must provide proof of rabies vaccination, and whether the dog is neutered or spayed. If the dog is neutered or spayed the fee is $8.50; otherwise, the fee is $15.50.

Each dog license issued shall be valid for a period of one year and shall not be transferable. A license shall be renewed at least 30 days prior to its expiration.
