2012 Arbor Day Tree Plantings
A tree grows in Newburgh- Arbor Day Tree Plantings on April 27, 2012, included 6 trees in the 200 blocks of Broadway and one on Richman Avenue. City of Newburgh Department of Public Works workers Reed Sheehan and John Colurciello assisted the Shade Tree Commission with their work.

2012 International Festival
The 24th Annual International Festival, organized by Deputy Mayor Regina Angelo was held over Labor Day Weekend in 2012. The festival was a great success, with local bands, international cuisine, carnival rides and games. It was enjoyed by people of all ages.

2012 Newburgh Rowing Club Shoreline Regatta
On July 14, 2012, the Newburgh Rowing Club held its 7th Annual Shoreline Regatta, with the main event once again being the "Hometown Heroes Gig Boat Races," featuring the City of Newburgh Police, City of Newburgh Firefighters and Town of Newburgh Police, rowing for bragging rights and a silver trophy with the names of the winners over the years engraved. For the third year in a row, it was the City of Newburgh Firefighters who took home the trophy.

City Council Honors NFA Track Teams
At their June 18, 2012 meeting, the Newburgh City Council honored the NFA Boys' and Girls' Track Teams for their participation in the 2012 Penn Relays. In addition to Kayla Phipps, whose picture in Sports Illustrated was displayed by the Mayor, the girls who competed were Nicole McRae, D'Yanna McCaskill, Gianna Frontera, Saleen Matta, Aliyah Matta, Kristina Smith and Melisande Corlett. The boys were Isaiah Valentine, Shaquille Wimberly, Terrel Moore, Xaivier McAllister, Roberto Joseph, and Karmone Malcolm.

City Hosts Rabies Clinic
The City of Newburgh hosted a very successful Rabies Clinic on Saturday, January 28, 2016 at the Activity Center. The free event was sponsored by the Orange County Department of Health and the City of Newburgh Police Department. There were a total of 248 animals vaccinated- including 189 dogs, 58 cats, and 1 ferret. 86 of the animals were from the City of Newburgh.

National Night Out 2012
The 15th annual National Night Out celebration at Delano-Hitch Park in the City of Newburgh was a great success with nearly 3,000 people of all ages attending. There was something for everyone to do, including Bingo in the Activity Center for the seniors, who were brought to site from various City residences for the elderly by Occupations, Inc. The pool was open, the basketball courts were packed, youngsters lined up for the bouncy house, DJ Erick Santana kept the crowd dancing outside, and City and County officials, and City Police and Firefighters mingled with the crowd. The Salvation Army and Mount Carmel Church cooked thousands of hotdogs, and snow cones and popcorn topped off the evening.

Newburgh Fire Department & Technical Rescue Team
The Newburgh Fire Department is a participating partner in the Orange County Technical Rescue Team, along with Sparrowbush Fire Department, Goshen Fire Department, Mechanicstown Fire Department, Monticello Fire Department and West Point. West Point and Newburgh form the core of the service in the eastern half of the county.

NFA Solar Racing Team Receives "Key to City"
On June 18, 2012 the Newburgh Free Academy Solar Racing Team received "the key to the City" and a certificate of appreciation from Mayor Judy Kennedy and the City Council. Deputy Mayor Regina Angelo and City Council members Gay Lee and Cedric Brown were on hand to congratulate the team on becoming the 2012 Shell Eco Marathon Solar Prototype Champion of the Americas. Their team leader is physics teacher and Orange County Legislator Chris Eachus.

Police Community Basketball Game
After a fast-paced game, the City of Newburgh All-Stars beat the City of Newburgh Police (and friends) 84 to 70 points. The Police Department was reinforced by the Department of Public Works but could not quite overcome the 4th quarter push by the All-Stars.

Youth Pride Day 2012
On Saturday, May 19, 550 young people marched, tumbled, danced, and drummed their way down South Street in the City of Newburgh’s annual Youth Pride Parade. The parade, organized by the City of Newburgh Youth Bureau, has become a local tradition, with hundreds of people lining the street to watch. Participants included local schools, sports leagues, churches and organizations that serve youth, as well as the ever-popular X Factor Band from Mount Vernon, Approaching Storm Marching Band from Brooklyn and Newburgh’s own Dynamic Approach Marching Band. Following the parade, Youth Pride Day continued at the Newburgh Free Library with Family Reading Day, with fun and free activities for all.
