Mission Statement

The Downing Park Planning Committee was incorporated in 1987 to achieve the following goals:

  • Act as an advocate for the preservation of Newburgh's aesthetically and historically significant landmark, Downing Park, which is part of the City's East End Historic District.
  • Generate use of Downing Park by the entire community by sponsoring events and encouraging other organizations to do the same. Sponsored programs will include, but not be limited to, cultural, educational, historical and recreational events.
  • Seek financial assistance through grants, fundraising activities and private donations to revitalize and maintain the Park.
  • Act as a consulting body by setting guidelines and providing advice regarding future restoration and/or physical alteration of the Park in accordance with amendments to the accepted Master Plan.
