Education

The Newburgh Enlarged City School District directs the public schools of the City of Newburgh, the Town of Newburgh, and the Town of New Windsor.

Serving over 12,000 students, the School District includes nine elementary schools, two middle schools (South, and Heritage), and three high school, the Newburgh Free Academy (Main, North and West campus).

In addition to the public schools, there are several private and parochial schools in the area.

The School District also operates the Newburgh Free Library.

Newburgh Performing Arts Academy DancersNewburgh Performing Arts Academy offers classes in music, dance and art for children after school and weekends.

The City of Newburgh is home to Mount Saint Mary College, a four-year private liberal arts college, with historic strengths in nursing and education.

Also, SUNY Orange, a community college, operates a branch in Newburgh. A major expansion of the Newburgh campus was completed in Spring 2012. The expansion includes the newly constructed Kaplan Hall, a state-of-the-art, 87,000 square feet building on Grand Street which opened in 2011. The expansion was completed in 2012 with the renovation of the Tower Building.
