Department of Public Works

The Department of Public Works is established under Article IX of the City Charter and organized under the Commissioner of Public Works to consist of the divisions of Engineering, Water, Sewer, Sanitation, and Streets and Bridges. The Department shall have responsibility for all improvement and maintenance projects related to City streets, rights-of-way, parks, rivers, waterworks, sewers, and City-owned real property.

The Commissioner of Public Works is appointed by the City Manager under City Charter §9.01 to develop, manage, and implement comprehensive public improvement and maintenance plans and projects for the operation and control of all City utilities and infrastructure. The current Commissioner of Public Works is Jason Morris, P.E. Commissioner Morris additionally serves as City Engineer. 

Divisions; Organization and Duties

  • The City Engineer supervises the operations of the Engineering division under the general supervision of the Commissioner of Public Works.

  • The Water Superintendent shall supervise the operations of the Water division under the general supervision of the Commissioner of Public Works.

  • The Superintendent of Public Works supervises the operations of the Sewer division, Sanitation division and the Streets and Bridges division under the general supervision of the Commissioner of Public Works.
