The 20th annual International Waterfront Festival took place from Aug. 29 to Sept. 1, 2008, on Martin Luther King Boulevard.

Waterfront Festival - Labor Day Weekend 2007

The 19th Annual Waterfront Festival in the City of Newburgh took place on Labor Day Weekend, Sept. 1-3, 2007. Performers included Shirley Alston Reeves, Blue Oyster Cult, and Karibe Mambo.

Newburgh Night Out

August 7, 2007: Neighborhoods and community groups throughout Newburgh participated in National Night Out against crime and violence.

 

June 22, 2007: Officials from Newburgh and Beacon inaugurate Water Taxi service between the two cities during summer weekends and holidays.

On March 8, 2007, the City of Newburgh Codes Compliance Department, led by Supervisor Steve Hunter, launched an aggressive Targeted Enforcement Initiative geared to cleaning up the City's toughest streets.

On Dec. 2, 2006, nearly 200 people turned out to welcome Santa and witness the official lighting of the Broadway Christmas tree.
The 35-foot blue spruce, from an anonymous donor in the Town of Newburgh, is known as "Ernie's Tree."

The second outdoor biennial Newburgh Sculpture Project ran from July to November 2006. Curated by Kerry Mills, the exhbition featured 18 site-responsive public sculptures along the streets of Newburgh's Waterfront district and Heritage Corridor.

Weather cooperated for the City's 2006 Memorial Day Parade, followed by a ceremony of remembrance at Washington's Headquarters. The parade included more than 60 organizations and representatives.

City of Newburgh Police Hold 2006 Awards Ceremony
On May 18, 2006, the City of Newburgh Police Department honored police officers for years of service, acts of bravery, and valuable police accomplishments.

Visioning Charrette for the DRC
The community shared ideas for the future of Newburgh's landmark former Dutch Reformed Church in a visioning "charrette" led by architect Steve Tilly on April 27 and 29, 2006.

Newburgh Youth and Seniors in "Generation Gab"
On Saturday, April 1, Newburgh youth met with 65 senior citizens at Hudson Pointe apartments in a Generation Gab to share ideas about Newburgh's future. The event was organized as part of the effort to gather public into into the Sustainable Master Plan.

Governor Announces Budget to Include $15 M for Construction of Newburgh Campus of Orange County Community College. Total State Support Now At $30 Million for New Mid-Hudson Valley Education Center.

Grant for DRC Adaptive Re-Use Study
Dec. 13, 2005. The Dyson Foundation of Millbrook NY awarded a $10,000 grant to the Newburgh Preservation Association to support a Feasible Utilization Study of Newburgh's former Dutch Reformed Church. Matching funds provided by the City of Newburgh and NPA.

City Hires Minority Firefighters

Nov. 17, 2005: The City of Newburgh recently hired three new firefighters, including two who had taken the newly offer Spanish edition of the Civil Service Exam for firefighters.

New Store on Broadway
Nov. 10, 2005. Owner Insik Park and manager Mitchell Kim celebrated the grand opening of Broadway Farm, 151 Broadway, together with officials from the City of Newburgh and the Orange County Chamber of Commerce.

Dinosaur Passes Through the City
Sept. 2, 2005. Over Labor Day weekend, a life-size bronze replica of a horned Torosaurus traveled down Broadway to the Yellow Bird Gallery on Front Street.
