Renowned Public Art Consultant Kendal Henry Named City
of Newburgh Cultural and Economic Director
On Feb. 16, 2007, the City of Newburgh appointed Kendal Henry to the newly created position of Cultural and Economic Director.
With a focus on economic growth, the Cultural and Economic Director develops and implements a program to build on Newburgh's resources of artistic strength, including visual, performance, musical, architectural, literary and associated arts. Reporting to the Director of Planning and Development, the Director functions as a liaison between the Arts and Culture Commission, City Government, the business community, and other organizations and the diverse community.
Mr. Henry brings a background of more than 16 years in public art and urban design to Newburgh. Prior to branching out on his own as a public arts consultant, Henry managed arts programs for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Arts for Transit for more than 10 years. His responsibilities included the Permanent Art Program, with oversight of architects, engineers, design consultants, artists and in-house personnel.
